Head-to-head
Aura vs Bark
Aura and Bark get compared constantly, but they're solving different problems. Aura is an identity-protection suite for the whole household that happens to include parental controls. Bark is a monitoring service built to read the risky parts of a kid's messages and flag them. If you pick by price alone you'll probably end up with the wrong one.

Short answer
Choose Bark if your main concern is messaging risk — bullying, predators, self-harm talk — and you want alerts with context. Choose Aura if you also want identity theft and credit monitoring for the adults and would otherwise buy that separately. If all you want is parental controls, both are expensive for what you get, which is why we built KidsHalo.

Pick Aura if…
Pick Aura if you were already shopping for identity theft protection. The Family plan covers five adults and unlimited kids, and the parental controls come along for the ride. Buying identity monitoring plus a parental control app separately usually costs more.
Pick Bark if…
Pick Bark if the fear that keeps you up is a conversation you can't see. Bark's coverage of texts, email, YouTube, and 30+ platforms is the widest in the category, and every alert arrives with guidance on how to talk to your kid about it.
Pick KidsHalo if…
Pick KidsHalo if you want the AI alerts and the screen time, app blocking, filtering, and location in one dashboard, on a free plan that stays free — and you don't need antivirus, a VPN, or a new phone to get there.
Try the third option free
KidsHalo puts AI safety alerts, screen time, app blocking, filtering, and location in one dashboard. The free plan covers one child and doesn't expire.
Common questions
Is Aura or Bark better for parental controls?+
Bark, if you judge them as parental control tools. Bark was built for it and reads far more of what a kid actually sends and receives. Aura's parental controls are a feature inside an identity-protection product, so they cover screen time, filtering, and location but not messaging risk.
Is Aura cheaper than Bark?+
No. Aura's Family plan runs $32/mo billed annually — about $384 a year — while the Bark app starts at $14/mo. Aura only works out cheaper if you were also going to buy identity theft protection, antivirus, and a VPN separately.
Do I need both Aura and Bark?+
Some families do run both, because they don't overlap much: Aura watches the family's identity and devices, Bark watches the conversations. That's roughly $550 a year combined, which is worth checking against what you'd actually use.
Does Bark work on iPhone?+
Yes, with limits. Apple restricts what any monitoring app can see on iOS, so Bark's iPhone coverage is narrower than on Android and needs more setup. That's true of every parental control app on iOS, including ours.
What's the cheapest way to get AI safety alerts?+
KidsHalo's free plan includes AI alerts for bullying, predator contact, and self-harm language alongside screen time and filtering, for one child. Paid plans start at $28.99/yr for more children and longer history.
